mermaid oyster bar

i should just go ahead and state that this entire week is going to be about food in new york, as it is a thing that i love most. there were so many great places --  how could i not post about them?

i went to the mermaid oyster bar last summer when i was visiting new york and fell in love with their happy hour.  i'm not a huge raw oyster fan, but if you are then this is definitely a great find for you.  if not, there are a ton of other great options like their fish tacos and shrimp corndogs - yes, shrimp corndogs!  their happy hour goes from 5:30 to 7:00 and they have good prices on wine, champagne ($6 each) and cocktails ($7).  i love their lobster sandwich so much, that i broke down and ordered this pricey baby off the regular menu.  how could i refuse the massive chunks of lobster on a griddled brioche roll?  putting fries with old bay on the side, well that is perfection.

{every meal ends with a complimentary pot de creme}
and if these pictures didn't convince you to go there, you should also know that they are huge believers in paying it forward.  they give to kiva.org, which is a global microfinance organization that supports communities in need and helps alleviate poverty.  so if you live in new york, or are planning a trip there, make sure to add this to your list.
