dry shampoo

I realize that dry shampoo has been around for a couple of years now, but I just recently jumped on the band wagon, and it couldn't have come at a better time.  Seriously, this stuff is amazing!  I know there are a ton of options out there, but I love Klorane's Gentle Dry Shampoo.  It's made with oat milk which for some reason makes it feel decadent, not to mention, it smells so so good.

I'm a daily shampoo kind of girl, except on Sundays (to my husband's dismay, I make it a policy to not shower on Sundays).  I know kinda gross, but it's my deal.  Every hairdresser I've had says to wash my hair every other day, but whenever I try, it just feels limp and greasy, and by the end of the day I feel like Charlie Brown's Pig Pen.

Recently my hairdresser told me that a better way to extend my not-so-natural-red-hued hair is to use dry shampoo.  It's so simple. All I have to do now is wake up, brush my hair and throw a couple of quick sprays at my roots and voila, I'm ready to be out in public.  So now I only have to wash my hair three times a week! Another perk is that it really does volumize and makes my hair look and feel so much thicker.

Of course, these days I'm in yoga pants - let's be honest, not even that - my outfit really consists of a nursing tank, a robe and slippers with some sort of spit up or breast milk covering at least 25% of my clothes.

One more thing before I go,  everyone warns new mothers-to-be that you'll never have time to shower, but I shower every single day...I even showered on Sunday.

I realize that it has been far too long since I've updated this blog, but I couldn't wait any longer to introduce the love of our lives, Amelia Hope Voris.

After a very long journey, Jeff and I are blessed to have welcomed this little butter bean into our lives on Sunday, May 5th, just minutes away from midnight. As Jeff says, she was determined to be a Cinco de Mayo baby. I 100% plan on writing more about her journey into the world, but now that I'm in my sleep deprived state,  I thought I'd share a few of my favorite family photos taken by the extraordinary Ann Molen.

I've found that when you start looking at everything you need for your new little one (and it is shocking just how much you feel you need to stock up on once you are expecting), it can get extremely overwhelming.  I really think that over the past decade all of this emphasis on celebrities having babies has propelled us into an industry akin to the wedding world.  There are a million choices an even more price points.  Not to mention that everyone has an opinion on what you need.

So, after spending a lot of time researching (I can't recommend the book Baby Bargains more) I have narrowed it down to items I can borrow, ways to budget and then certain items that both Jeff and I are okay with splurging on. For me, one of them is a diaper bag.

When asking my girlfriends what is important in a diaper bag I heard the following:

• lots of pockets
• wipeable fabric
• zipper to hold everything in
• stroller straps

I took all of those items under consideration and matched it with a need to have a stylish bag.  For me (and every woman is different), I really wanted a bag that didn't look too babyish.  I wanted something that I can transition to a carry-on/travel or laptop bag when the time came.  After all, I am determined to not lose my style once I have a little one.

My friend Jo has an MZ Wallace bag and I 100% single white femaled her on it.  She agreed that yes, it was an investment, but she says she's used it every day for the past year.  It just so happened that Jeff had to go to NYC for work and was staying just a few blocks away from the MZ Wallace store.  As it was definitely a splurge, he got it for me for Christmas.  Everybody wins.

Clearly, I've not been at my best with blogging the last half of the year and one of my big goals for 2013 is to return to weekly, if not daily, blogging.  Now that the misery that was my first trimester has passed and I only have a month left of my second trimester, I plan on spending a lot of down time writing in my third.

I love buying makeup.  When I was in high school, one of my favorite things was going to the cosmetic counter (then Merle Norman (oh yes) and Clinique) with my mom and having the lady select the perfect blush, eye shadow, or foundation.  I guess then it somehow made me feel grown up.  I remember opening the box and pulling out the lipstick and just looking at it. Then, I'd put it back in the pretty little box, as it just felt too decadent to throw away.  This went on for a few days until I finally accepted reality and threw the container away and put the lipstick in my purse.

Through the years, I've definitely experimented with all different lines and price points, and absolutely mix in match between expensive and bargain cosmetics, but one of my favorites to splurge on is Laura Mercier.  Now that I'm prego and not buying clothes (and not fitting into my old clothes), I decided a way to add some style is with a little color on my face.  Last weekend I went to Nordstrom's and bought this Laura Mercier kit, which comes with three eye shadows, eye liner, lip gloss, bronzer AND blush. I've been wearing it everyday this week and feeling a little sassier.

Today was one of the first days that I have felt good in months.  Obviously, it goes without saying how thrilled I am to be pregnant, but up until today I have been nauseated more hours of the day than not.

I took advantage of this moment and headed out for a little retail therapy, which ended up being more involved than I originally planned.  My favorite moment of the day was popping into the Godiva shop and treating myself to a couple delicious truffles.  It is the little things ...
